Champagne is heerlijk maar niet eenvoudig om te bewaren. Een goede vraag: hoe lang blijft champagne goed. Deze vraag kan je op twee manier beantwoorden. Gaat het om een gesloten of geopende fles.

Afgesloten champagne bewaren

Sommige mensen beweren dat champagne beter wordt als je deze bewaart. Dat is niet waar. Champagne is geen bewaarwijn. Normaal gesproken is champagne die je koopt gemaakt om te drinken en niet om te bewaren. Het wil niet zeggen dat champagne niet bewaard kan worden. De wijn wordt er alleen niet beter op. Er is een stelregel die zegt dat champagne net zolang te bewaren is als deze gerijpt heeft in de kelder. Het gaat dan om wat mogelijk is maar niet om het verbeteren van de wijn.

Vintage champagne

Er zijn wel champagnes die wat langer houdbaar zijn. Het gaat dan om vintage champage, flessen met een jaartal. De belangrijkste reden hiervoor is dat deze wijnen geen of weinig Pinot Meunier bevatten. Champage met een hoog gehalte van deze druif rijpt snel en loopt dus snel in kwaliteit terug,
